During some days in the US in Winter 2014, I had the chance to visit Golden Gate Fields, which is San Francisco Bay’s regional racetrack. It certainly is a race track very much unlike of what one would usually encounter in Europe – of course because it is US racing, and the Americans do things differently, as we all know. However in the case of Golden Gate Fields, it is all about the immense size of the imposing grand stand! Visually one has to be impressed with the sheer size – inside alike as outside.
Interesting fact: Unlike most other US tracks, Golden Gate Fields is racing on Tapeta. A synthetic surface, most famously used at Meydan for the first couple of years, as well as most recently at Wolverhampton in England. All images © Florian Christoph.
